This parental safety app manages the entire school bus commuting experience for parents, bus workers, and school managers. It features tailored interfaces for different user groups to track and manage children's daily travel safely.

The project demonstrates a multidisciplinary approach to service design, covering everything from ethnography to interface design. It solves a high-stress logistical problem with a human-centered, reliable digital solution.

The Parent Dashboard

The dashboard serves as the central information hub for daily operations. It prominently displays the next scheduled pickup time and address, ensuring parents have immediate access to the most critical data. A built-in interactive calendar allows for proactive schedule management, empowering parents to cancel or edit pickups in advance for days when students won't be using the bus. Additionally, it provides quick-access links to Bus Staff contacts and the assigned vehicle number to ensure constant connectivity.

Student Profile & Safety Management

The profile section is the core of the app’s security and personalization. It displays verified student profiles, guardian details, and emergency contacts, all of which are user-editable. To further enhance safety, we included a dedicated section for critical medical information and a Lost and Found reporting feature, ensuring that the app supports the child’s well-being beyond just the physical commute.

Alerts & Support Center

Designed for situational awareness and rapid response, this screen centralizes all important notifications that might impact the commute. Beyond the alerts feed, it features a high-visibility Emergency Call button that connects parents directly to school administrators. For non-urgent inquiries, an FAQ dropdown section provides immediate answers to common logistical questions, reducing the need for manual support calls.

Live Route & Stop Tracking

The map screen provides a comprehensive view of the bus's journey, visualizing the entire route, specific stops, and the vehicle's real-time location. Parents can see the total estimated route time alongside precise pickup times for each individual stop. This screen bridges the gap between schedule and reality, providing visual confirmation of the bus’s progress throughout the city.

Security through Simplicity

The branding for Guardian Angel is centered on the concepts of Vigilance and Trust. The visual identity utilizes a high-contrast palette to ensure legibility in high-stress environments—whether a coordinator is managing a fleet under a deadline or a parent is checking a notification in bright sunlight.

The iconography and UI patterns are designed for speed; every element is intended to reduce cognitive load, allowing users to find critical information in seconds. By balancing a technical, data-driven approach for administrators with a intuitive interface for parents, the brand establishes itself as a reliable digital guardian for the modern school community.

Main Dashboard

Managing school logistics is a high-stakes operation involving hundreds of routes and thousands of student journeys. I designed the Guardian Angel Administrator App to serve as the central nervous system for transport coordinators. This secure, desktop-based platform provides a live, data-driven view of the entire fleet, ensuring that safety is never left to chance.

A Tri-Platform Ecosystem for Student Transport Safety

The Parent App

The Parent App was designed to replace the uncertainty of the daily commute with real-time transparency. By transforming complex GPS data into an intuitive personal dashboard, the interface provides parents with live bus tracking, precise ETA updates, and proactive alerts. A key feature of this safety net is the integrated NFC card system: as students enter or exit the vehicle, they scan their personal NFC cards, instantly updating their status within the app. This allows parents to see exactly when their child has boarded or departed the bus, ensuring a continuous chain of accountability from the front door to the school gates.

The Bus Staff App

The Bus Staff App is a high-utility tool built for the fast-paced environment of student transit, focusing on route optimization and immediate communication. The interface empowers drivers and attendants with a dynamic manifest that updates in real-time based on parent feedback, allowing them to bypass empty stops and maintain a lean schedule. The safety of the journey is further reinforced by the NFC scanning interface, which provides staff with a digital "check-in" for every student. By cross-referencing these scans with assigned seating charts and providing one-tap communication with parents, the app ensures that the staff can focus on the road while the technology handles the burden of passenger logistics.

A Unified Framework

The Guardian Angel project was born from a singular goal: to eliminate the uncertainty and fragmentation of school transportation. By designing a synchronized, tri-platform ecosystem, we created a seamless flow of data between the school, the road, and the home. This project addresses the complex logistics of student safety through three specialized interfaces, each tailored to the unique needs of its user base.

The Three Pillars of Protection
To provide total oversight, the system is divided into three interconnected applications:

The Administrator Desktop App: The central command center for transport coordinators to manage fleet logistics, student rosters, and real-time alerts.
The Bus Staff Mobile App: A streamlined interface for drivers and attendants to manage navigation, passenger manifests, and emergency communication.
The Parent Mobile App: A high-transparency portal providing parents with live bus tracking, proximity alerts, and direct communication with the school.

The Admin App

The Administrator Desktop App serves as the central command center for the Guardian Angel ecosystem. This secure, account-based platform allows transport coordinators to navigate through various levels of detail -from a bird’s-eye view of the entire fleet on a live map to the granular manifests of individual student profiles.

By integrating features like multi-vehicle status tracking, real-time telemetry, and filterable data tables for analytics and alerts, the interface ensures total accountability and operational efficiency. Every screen in this sequence is engineered to handle high-density information with ease, providing school authorities the precision needed to manage a safe and synchronized transport network.

Staff Dashboard

The home interface acts as a dynamic itinerary, showing the exact details for the immediate next pickup. Beyond the address and list of students, the screen features a real-time absence integration. By pulling data from the Parent App, it instantly notifies staff if a student has reported an absence or a change in transport, ensuring the crew has an accurate, up-to-the-minute manifest before they even reach the curb.

Communication-First Map View

While similar to the parent’s map, the Staff Map is tailored for active coordination. In addition to the live route and stop sequence, it features prominent, one-tap Parent Contact buttons for every student at a specific stop. This enables the attendant to facilitate quick, last-minute communication—such as notifying a parent if the bus is running early or if a child hasn't appeared at the door.

Bus Status & Safety Manifest

The final screen serves as the vehicle’s digital health and safety log. It includes a Fault Report button for immediate maintenance flagging and a comprehensive Student Roster. This manifest includes assigned seating charts, allowing staff to perform quick visual cross-checks to ensure every student is in their designated safe zone, providing an extra layer of security during the transit.

The Guardian Angel project is more than just a series of interfaces; it is a fully realized solution to a complex logistical challenge. By bridging the gap between hardware (NFC), software (Tri-platform sync), and human needs (Safety and Efficiency), this ecosystem sets a new standard for school transportation.
